Primary Job Duties: Sets up and operates all tools in the machine group(s) including, but not limited to, manual or CNC machine tools and ancillary equipment to machine parts from castings, forgings, fabricated parts, and bar stock. Interprets engineering prints and uses all types of precision gaging equipment. Trains Precision Machine Operators and creates documentation related to the job.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although other duties may be assigned:
- Sets up and operates a wide variety of machines in the machine group(s), setting controls as required.
- Interprets blueprints or tooling instructions to determine part specification, work hold arrangement, cutting speeds, and cutting tools to be used.
- Understands CNC programs and CNC control functions for multiple different machines.
- Inspects and documents first run piece and performs periodic inspections throughout run.
- Responsible for training multiple operators on all manufacturing processes and communicating ideas/suggestions for continuous improvement to the supervisor.
- Attaches fixture to machine table or spindle, positions and secures work piece according to setup instructions, and selects, measures, and installs cutting tools in machine spindle, turret, or magazine.
- Identifies work holding maintenance needs.
- Creates and maintains work instructions, job notes, and part inspection reports.

- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), three to four years’ related machining experience and/or training.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and blueprints. Ability to create and interpret set-up cards, routine reports, and procedure documents. Ability to convey technical information to different audiences.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to the work situation.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform job by exercising proficient judgment, diligent attention to detail, and capable of comprehending written and/or oral instructions.
- Other Qualifications: Thorough understanding of G-Code programming and multiple machining principles. Thorough understanding of precision measuring instruments. Basic computer skills.
