Primary Job Duties Sets-up and operates manual and CNC precision grinding machines to grind a variety of carbide, stainless steel, and bronze parts to specified dimensions. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of different grinding wheels for cylindrical and flat grinding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although other duties may be assigned:

• Interprets engineering prints and setup notes to determine fixturing needed, dimensional specifications, setup, and operating requirements.
• Performs six types of grinding as needed, including surface, OD, ID, thru-feed centerless, infeed centerless, and carbide insert grinding and uses basic precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, comparators) to measure parts.
• Operates balancer and Bridgeport to ensure parts are balanced within print dimensions.
• Programs, operates and controls the functions of the grinder for parts to print dimensions and inspects all parts for tolerance; requesting first part inspection from designated personnel.
• Documents all procedures and processes, including training information, and troubleshoots production and equipment problems as needed.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years related experience and/or training.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and blueprints.  Ability to create and interpret set-up cards, routine reports, and procedure documents.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Other Qualifications: Familiarity with FANUC controls, and experience with Studer, Agathon, and Wendt a plus.
