Primary Job Duties Sets-up and operates manual and CNC precision grinding machines to grind a variety of carbide, stainless steel, and bronze parts to specified dimensions. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of different grinding wheels for cylindrical and flat grinding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although other duties may be assigned:
- Interprets engineering prints and setup notes to determine fixturing needed, dimensional specifications, setup, and operating requirements.
- Performs six types of grinding as needed, including surface, OD, ID, thru-feed centerless, infeed centerless, and carbide insert grinding and uses basic precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, comparators) to measure parts.
- Operates balancer and Bridgeport to ensure parts are balanced within print dimensions.
- Programs, operates and controls the functions of the grinder for parts to print dimensions and inspects all parts for tolerance; requesting first part inspection from designated personnel.
- Documents all procedures and processes, including training information, and troubleshoots production and equipment problems as needed.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years related experience and/or training.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and blueprints. Ability to create and interpret set-up cards, routine reports, and procedure documents.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Other Qualifications: Familiarity with FANUC controls, and experience with Studer, Agathon, and Wendt a plus.
Qualified applicants must have a minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training with a high school education or equivalent. Ability to solve math problems, use precision measuring instruments, basic computer skills and able to communicate effectively. Familiarity with FANUC controls, and experience with Studer and Agathon a plus. Physical Demands include remaining stationery for sustained durations, stooping/bending, pushing/pulling, overreaching, wrist movement, and griping, grasping and/or squeezing.
