Urschel, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Facilities Engineer. The Facilities Engineer optimizes the infrastructure and layout of the physical assets within our industrial manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for the planning, design, and continuous improvement of facilities systems, (e.g. safety systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural components). The role supports production continuity, ensures regulatory compliance, and contributes to energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. This position will report to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.

Primary job duties include:
Facility Designs and Projects

  • Design, implement, and oversee improvements and modifications to industrial facility systems and infrastructure.  Assists in facility projects including renovations, utility upgrades, equipment installations, and space planning.

Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, safety, and environmental teams to ensure facility reliability and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.  Support emergency preparedness planning and business continuity efforts.

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance Adherence

  • Collaborate with Facility Maintenance Supervisor and Electronics/CNC Maintenance Supervisor on preventive and corrective maintenance programs for building systems and support utilities. Conduct root cause analysis and resolve issues related to facility failures and operational disruptions.

Record Keeping

  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as layouts, schematics, and specifications.  Monitor and optimize facility energy usage, supporting sustainability goals and cost reduction.

Urschel employee-owners design and manufacture industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries around the world from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment on a daily basis.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Facilities Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field. A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial facilities engineering or facilities management is required. Applicants must have a solid understanding of building systems such as HVAC, electrical distribution, compressed air, water systems, and fire protection. Familiarity with building codes, OSHA and NFPA safety regulations, and environmental standards is essential. Strong project management and problem-solving abilities are necessary, along with proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit, Microsoft Office applications, and facility management systems.
